Panic attacks are identified by the sudden onset of brief periods of distress and fear. Visible symptoms of panic attacks include shortness of breath, trembling, palpitations, nausea, sweating, dizziness, tingling, hyperventilation, smothering, and choking. Frequently occurring panic attacks for no conceivable reason are indications of panic disorder though it must be noted that there are several types of anxiety disorders that might also lead to frequent panic attacks.
A common example is people who have a problem of phobias. Their fear-triggers can easily lead to panic attacks. Many people who have panic attacks also report that during the attack they feel like they are dying or losing control of their senses (especially emotions and rational thought). The primary reaction to panic attacks is a deep and uncontrollable desire to remove oneself from the place and situation where the attack began. The feeling of helplessness at the hands of fate and a sense of impending doom and fear of death are heightened by the shortness of breath (translated as inability to breathe) and tunnel vision.
Panic attacks are not rare and most people are going to experience them occasionally, especially during periods of high anxiety. Quite often, panic attacks will be inexplicable to the person suffering them and this often leads people into concluding that something is wrong with them though in actual case, people simply fail to connect their everyday lives to potentials of panic attacks. Different people suffer different range of panic attacks, from a few minutes to a few hours, and the frequency and tendency of panic attacks also varies accordingly.
The experts who study panic attacks are of the opinion that the attacks are a result of excessive adrenaline in the blood that leads to palpitations. Adrenaline stimulates our senses and under emergencies, it enables our body to function at higher-than-normal efficiency. However, under normal circumstances all that extra blood and adrenaline lead to adverse side effects that are known as panic attacks. When the human body faces an emergency, it takes the body about 3 minutes to respond, until then everything is, as they say, in your head. During these 3 minutes, the adrenal glands produce enough adrenaline to get us going but then they have to stop or the person goes into adr 1000 enaline shock. Panic attacks result when our bodies receive false signals that trigger the adrenal glands. There is no physical emergency (most causes are psychological, like fear) and yet our bodies try to respond as if there were.
The key to avoiding panic attacks is relaxation, especially when you are feeling anxious or you are afraid of some event that is about to happen. That thrill you feel in a horror movie, always waiting for something to pop out and scare you, is the adrenaline at work. In real life, when you suspect yourself getting close to the edge, just relax and try to calm your mind and body. Deep breathing is recommended because it lowers the heart rate. Another good way is to curb your negative thoughts and feelings, focus more on the positive sides of life. Treating panic attacks is essential because neglecting to do so can lead to advanced problems like agoraphobia.
Panic attacks are cured using medication or psychotherapy, or a combination of both, as required.
